Honeymoon Planner & Budget Spreadsheet

Spreadsheet
  • Instant download, nothing ships
  • Works with Excel & Google Sheets
  • Yours to keep, no subscription

This honeymoon planner spreadsheet keeps your honeymoon budget, bookings and plans in one place: set a budget by category, log every booking and expense in any currency, see what is spent and still to pay in US dollars, and track every gift to your honeymoon fund. It counts down the days to departure and shows how many days after the wedding you leave. It works in Google Sheets and in Microsoft Excel, and it is an instant digital download: nothing is shipped.

You get: one ZIP file with a PDF that holds your Google Sheets link (open it, then File, then Make a copy) and the same template as an Excel file (.xlsx), with nine sheets plus a guide. Nothing is dated in advance: the countdown, itinerary dates and due dates come from the dates you type, so the template works for any honeymoon.

Works in Google Sheets (easiest on a computer; the phone and tablet app is fine for logging expenses) and in Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer. You type only in the cream cells; totals, statuses, dates and charts update on their own.

Who it's for

  • Couples planning a honeymoon who want the budget, the bookings and the honeymoon fund together in one file.
  • Couples paying in another currency who want every amount shown in US dollars with a rate they choose.

The Dashboard

Your names and the trip name sit at the top, with eight figures: days to departure, planned budget, spent so far, still to pay on bookings, left after bookings, cost per person, bookings paid in full and the balances due within 14 days. A trip line shows how many days after the wedding you depart, a funding line compares your honeymoon fund with your budget, and a pie chart shows where the money goes. A second page shows who paid what and how to settle up between the two of you, the next five payments due, packing progress for each of you, your checklist progress and a planned versus projected chart for every category.

Trip Setup and currencies

On Trip Setup you type your names, the trip name and destination, your wedding date and your departure and return dates. Rows 1 and 2 are the two of you, with room for up to eight travelers. Leave Costs covered by blank to split everything per person, or let one of you cover the other to skip the settle-up. Add up to five foreign currencies with the rate you choose for each, as an estimate you type: the file never looks up or forecasts a rate. List up to five sources of money for the trip; the first one, your honeymoon fund, fills in from the Fund Gifts sheet.

Honeymoon fund gifts

The Fund Gifts sheet holds up to 60 gifts: who it is from, the amount, the date received and whether your thank-you note is sent. The total feeds your honeymoon fund on Trip Setup, and each row shows Thank-you sent or Thank-you to send.

Budget, bookings and expenses

The Budget sheet has ten categories you can rename, including spa and romantic extras. Type what you plan to spend on each; booked, spent, still to pay, projected, left and percent used fill in from your bookings and expenses, with a status such as On track, Almost there or Over budget. The Bookings sheet holds up to 60 flights, stays, car rentals, trains and tours with the cost and the amount paid in the booking's own currency, converted to US dollars, the balance due date and a cancellation countdown. The Expenses sheet holds up to 300 purchases before or during the trip in any currency; type a negative amount for a refund.

Itinerary, packing and checklist

The Itinerary holds up to 200 plans: type the day number and the date fills in from your departure date. The Packing list holds up to 200 items for each of you or for both. The Pre-trip Checklist holds up to 60 tasks, each due a number of days before departure, and shows which are due soon or overdue.

Questions

Do I need Excel? No. A free Google account is enough: open the link in the PDF and click Make a copy. The .xlsx file is included for anyone who prefers Excel.

What if we pay in another currency? Add its three-letter code and the rate you expect on Trip Setup, as your own estimate. Every booking and expense in that currency then shows in US dollars at that rate, rounded to the cent; the file never looks up or forecasts a rate.

Does it print? Yes, in landscape on US Letter: the Dashboard on two pages, Trip Setup and the Budget on one page each, and every list, including Fund Gifts, its first page of rows with the headers repeated. The note above each list and the guide show how to print more rows.

Can we both add to it? Yes. In Google Sheets, share your copy with your partner and each of you can log bookings, expenses and gifts from your own phone or computer. In Excel, keep one main file between you.

What if we split costs unevenly? Each cost can be shared or charged to one of you; the settle-up shows who owes whom to the cent.
