Cozy Library Digital Reading Journal

Digital planner
  • Instant download, nothing ships
  • Works with Goodnotes, Notability & any PDF app
  • Yours to keep, no subscription

This reading journal template gives every book you read a page of its own: 105 undated, hyperlinked pages in cream, terracotta, sage and plum, made for Goodnotes and other PDF apps and sent as an instant digital download with nothing shipped.

You get one undated PDF: 105 pages in 9 tabbed sections, with 40 one-page book reviews.

Works in Goodnotes, Notability and Noteshelf on iPad, and in Xodo or Samsung Notes on Android tablets: any note app that keeps PDF links.

Why it feels cozy

  • Warm cream paper with soft cards in blush, sage, butter and lilac, little sparkles and leaves, and rounded arches around the pictures.
  • Pastel bookmark tabs down the right edge, one color per section, on every page after the cover.
  • A cover with a night-sky arch, a crescent moon and a full bookshelf, plus an "Undated, any year" label.

What's inside, page by page

Every section except the reviews opens with its own page: what's inside (every item taps through), a short "how this section works" note and lines for your own notes.

  • Front (4 pages): cover, contents with shortcuts to Reading Bingo, Year at a Glance, Currently Reading and Book Budget, How to Use, and a reader profile (comfort read, the book you'd save in a fire)
  • Goals & Challenges (4 pages): reading goals, a yearly challenge jar of 52 numbered circles (pick 12, 24 or 52), 24 reading prompts, and a 5 by 5 reading bingo card made from the same prompts, with a free center square
  • My Bookshelf (2 pages): 135 numbered spines; color one for every book you finish and write the title along it
  • Reading Log (7 pages): Currently Reading for up to four books, each with a progress bar you color every 10%, then 6 log pages for 96 books (title, author, genre, format, dates, star rating, review number)
  • Book Reviews (41 pages): a review index with 40 numbered cards, then 40 one-page reviews
  • Monthly Overview (13 pages): Year at a Glance, a 365-day reading tracker, then 12 undated months, each with up to 12 books, totals for pages, hours and DNFs, a circle for every day you read and a book of the month
  • Lists & Trackers (12 pages): 3 to-be-read stacks (66 books), 2 wishlist pages (32 books), 2 book budget & haul pages (you add up the running total yourself), 2 series trackers (20 series), books I lent, borrowed & library loans with due dates, and did not finish
  • Favorite Quotes (3 pages): 18 quote cards, each with a line for the book and page
  • Stats & Year in Review (4 pages): a genre wheel, reading stats, year in review and 10 book awards
  • Book Club & Notes (7 pages): 3 book club meeting pages, 2 lined and 2 dot grid notes pages

A closer look at the pages you'll use most

The review page. A frame to sketch or paste the cover; title, author and series; five stars and five flames for spice; recommend: yes, maybe or no. Circle the vibe from eight words (cozy, funny, dark, emotional, hopeful, fast-paced, twisty, magical), tick tropes from six printed chips or write two of your own, then add content notes, the characters you loved or loathed, your thoughts and favorite quotes.

The genre wheel. Fourteen named genres, from romance and romantasy to memoir and nonfiction, plus two blank wedges for your own. Each wedge has ten rings: color one from the center out for every book, then count them up beside it.

How a reading year flows

Start with your goals and pick a challenge size for the jar. When you finish a book, log it, color a spine, a jar circle and a slice of the genre wheel, and give it a full review if it earns one, noting the review number in the log. Each month, fill that month's overview and a row of reading stats; at year end, the year in review and book awards are waiting.

The tabs on the right open every section, and the buttons at the bottom step to the previous or next page, so any page is two taps or fewer from Home.

Who it's for

  • Readers who like to color in their progress as much as they like to write about it.
  • Romance and fantasy readers who track spice, tropes and series.
  • Book clubs: each meeting page holds questions to bring, what others said and the next pick.

Prefer a darker study? The same 105 pages come in Dark Academia, or keep it simple and light with Minimal. All three designs sit together in A reading life, and our other journals and planners are in digital planners.

Questions

Is it dated? No. Write the month at the top of each monthly overview and the year on your goals page, and start whenever you like.

Can I edit the page layouts? No. It's a finished PDF, not a Canva or Notion template: the labels and layouts stay as they are, and you write, type or color in them.

Can I type instead of writing by hand? Yes. Use your app's text tool on any line.

What if I read more than 96 books? Duplicate a log or review page in your app. The tabs on a copy may not work in every app; if they don't, use your app's outline panel. The shelf has 135 spines to color.

Can I print it? Yes. It's made for tablets first, but any page prints: choose landscape and "fit to page" on US Letter or A4. The cream pages print lightly; small labels print small.
